Have you ever considered a Valentine’s Day wedding or an off season one? It is very tough to be a human in 2017. We are in the age of the hipster, and god forbid you do anything considered “mainstream.” We do all we can to avoid being viewed as cliche–don’t propose on a holiday, don’t post this type of picture with your S.O., don’t have your first dance to All of Me by John Legend, and so on. On one hand, I can’t possibly think of anything cornier or more cliche than having a Valentine’s Day wedding. But on the other hand, I can think of a plethora of reasons to have a Valentine’s Day wedding. Here are a few of those reasons that really made me go, “OH MAN, you’re so right, that’s the best idea ever.”
(Before we begin, I’d like to give credit to my dear friend Lucy for first planting this seed in my mind. You’re a genius, and I am grateful to you for this.)
1. More Vendors and Venues May Be Available
February is not typically a busy season for weddings, in the same way there’s an off-season for ski resorts and tanning salons, so you’re going to have a much easier time finding exactly what you want without having to battle five other brides for it. It won’t be as difficult to have your dream wedding, how exciting!
2. There can be deals and discounts!
Like I said in the first point, February is the off-season for weddings! That gives you the potential to find a some great discounts. Venues in particular are not usually booked solid, they may offer you some unique discounts or an off season rate in order to get events on the books. In addition, check to see if other vendors that may be offering off season discounts for their services.
This is never going to be a 100% guarantee, but it’s definitely something you should ask your wedding planner to look in to!
3. More Family and Friends Can Come!
This is another beautiful thing. It’s not peak travel season, so plane tickets are bound to be less expensive. Not only that, but your friends won’t have to fight to the death with Diane three cubicles over to get a few days off. Your wedding is absolutely your day, but there’s nothing bad about keeping these thoughts in mind to make things easier on your guests too! Talk about a win/win.
4. More Honeymoon Options!
If you haven’t already figured it out, our central theme for this post is “off-season.” This goes for your honeymoon too! February is not a high-traffic vacation season, so most of your first-choice destinations will just be glad for business! And if, like me, a tropical vacay is your favorite, I have good news for you: the tropics are pretty much tropical year-round! Hawaii is just as fun in February as it is in July, trust me.
5. Themed Food is FUN!
This might just be my opinion, but food tastes approximately twelve thousand times better when it’s cut into cute shapes. I’m talking heart shaped cookies, heart shaped pizzas, heart shaped salad bowls, heart shaped EVERYTHING. I guarantee you there are also cupid-shaped cookie cutters and X-O shaped balloons. Maybe it’s a little bit lame, but I love themes, and you can’t stop me.
A few of you may disagree with me and think this is the worst idea ever, but I hope at least a few of you said “huh, I never thought about that” while reading this. Either way, I hope you enjoyed reading this, and I hope you enjoy this season of love!
Cheers, and Happy Valentine’s Day! -Abigail
